Kayak is a type of canoe in which you sit looking towards the bow (front end), in the direction of travel and you have a double-bladed paddle as a means of propulsion. Its origin goes back to the eskimos, who used it for fishing and hunting.
The kayak is a small boat in comparison to others, semi-closed or open, not very wide and long. They can be for one, two or four people and for rivers, whitewater, speed, courses, sea, freestyle, kayak polo, whitewater slalom, touring, etc.
A romantic kayaker defined kayaking as the transformation of his being into a boat as one: “My body is my boat and my soul is the captain”.
